This initial concept revolved around childhood, the abandonment of the past, and disenchanting results. We continued to develop the concept as we produced concept art and build a basic environment and controls in Unity. The end result was “Estrellastray.”

Ricardo, all grown up, returns to his favorite childhood park. There he discovered his favorite ride, abandoned and in disrepair. He discovers the merry-go-round is actually an trans-dimensional ship, and his childhood imaginary friend was actually its pilot. Ricardo’s friend sees how disappointed “Ricky” is with his life and the world around him, so he takes Ricky back to his childhood. The alien friend’s child-like spirit and Ricky’s childhood imagination run rampant together, as Ricardo is transformed into a child and equipped with alien technology. With light on his side, Ricky fights the dark demons of his past.

The name Estrellastray refers to both the lonesome nature of the alien friend, and the way Ricardo’s life has deviated from his desired path.

Further development would include more imagination-warped past events, such as a pillow fort during a sleep-over gone wrong, more light-based weaponry, and the beautification of the Ricardo’s present time.

Estrellastray was developed in about 45 hours by three people of Team Gamma Gods:

Devil Valley Masters is a combination coop and competitive game where two players sharing a keyboard compete to collect the most magnetic energy while cooperating to repair their damaged magnetic vehicle and defeat the villainous Starfish Prime. The players manipulate magnetic forces to draw in their color of magnetic energy while repelling their sibling’s color and grappling with the difficult movement mechanics of their rotating platform.

The gameplay was inspired by the playground merry go round’s dizzying effects and the cooperative play that happens when several kids are riding around in one and spun off from there(pun-intended). The players find the broken down merry go round and it turns on and takes them for a wild ride. The art style is a playful exaggeration of the overgrowth shown in the image with a bit of dizziness thrown in for good measure.

Author: Zayne Black

This game is really a cathartic opinion piece for me, voicing more or less all of my opinions about the feminist movement in media (and in general), and my issues with both sides of the debate. I have attempted to put across my thoughts in an inoffensive way, with as much respect and consideration for others as I can. It is not intended to offend anyone but, obviously, when dealing with such sensitive subject matter, it might express some views that others find unsavoury or difficult to deal with.

There is also a Flash version, playable within your browser, that you can try here: http://www.kongregate.com/games/DedHedZed/the-spin-machine-a-game-about-feminism
